Featured article Shampoo In My Eyes By: Pastor Aaron Soto If you are a parent, you probably know well or remember the challenging task of bathing your children. It was quite and chore to get them in the tub, and for our kids, it’s was even harder to get them out!
I discovered that everything was fine until it was time to wash my children’s hair. Did you have the same problem? Of course the dilemma was that we needed our children to look up so that water and shampoo wouldn’t get into their eyes. Unfortunately for me, it was common for my kids to panic as I poured the water on the tip of their hairline on their forehead so that the water would run back through their hair and rinse out all the suds. As a result, water and shampoo would than run into their eyes and things would get …complicated.
This scenario is very similar to our relationship with God. I know God is my father, that he loves me and wants what is best for me. But sometimes, in difficult situations, I panic and turn my eyes away from Him. This never solves the problem; I just become more afraid as the situation blinds and stings my eyes.
When bathing my children, I knew how to protect them from being hurt, but convincing them of that wasn’t easy, especially when all they could see was water coming down. Their lack of trust hurt them more than it hurt me. I’m sure my lack of trust hurts God, but it hurts me more than Him.
Often in the Bible we are told to lift up our head to God when problems come. God knows how to protect us if we remember to look up and listen to His instructions. In our difficult moments, let us remember not to panic and look away, God will keep the “shampoo” out of our eyes; he is faithful and loves us. |
